Things to consider when translating business cards into Arabic

Arabic Regional Dialects in the Gulf States

Many, if not most, of our clients who order business cards in Arabic often do so for travel to the Gulf Arab States (which include Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the sultanate of Oman, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates). A question that many of our clients often have is whether their business cards will be accepted if they travel to the Gulf States or any other Arabic-speaking country. While a variation of spoken dialects in each respective country exists, the truth is that there is really only one Arabic Language, one which will be understood by business professionals in most Arabic-speaking countries. The important thing to have is an authentic business card translated by an Arabic-speaking professional regardless of his or her country of origin.

Yet if you do have the opportunity to have your card reviewed by your partner in the region and time is allowed, you are highly encouraged to do so. Translation of Names in Arabic-Speaking Countries

Names are translated based on pronunciation preferences held by varying translators from each respective region. In most cases, these preferences are widely accepted as it is common knowledge that most Arabic-speaking countries employ translators from around the world.

In addition, certain English characters like P, V, G, and Q do not have matching consonants in the Arabic language. When such a case occurs, the Arabic translator uses the closest character.
