Canadian compliance review services
PLG is pleased to provide compliance review services for the Canadian market
Canadian Compliance Overview
In order for products to be placed on Canadian shelves, products must adhere to Canada’s regulatory laws. Canadian packaging regulations are set by the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act. These regulations identify what the required information to be placed on Canadian packaging is. There are also strict layout, font size and advertising restrictions that apply to both English and French. The province of Quebec has additional requirements concerning the use of the French language on all products marketed within its jurisdiction.

Basics of Canadian Compliance and the Consumer Packaging and Labelling Act
The following is the most common information that we review during the compliance review process, which form the core elements of Canadian label compliance requirements:
Product names | Advertising claims | Nutritional information and ingredient listings |
Bilingual copy | Font style/size | Weight, measurements/conversions |
Instructions | Allergens | Other claims and information made on the label |
Scope of Services
We are prepared to handle all your compliance needs for a wide array of products, including:
- Food Products
- Cosmetics
- General Consumer Products
Our Process
The compliance review process typically consists of the following steps:
- Client sends PLG English artwork files of the labels to be compliant for Canadian market
- English artwork is reviewed for compliance regulations
- Changes to English material is made either by PLG or the client
- English material is translated into French
- Bilingual artwork is reviewed again for compliance
- Final edits and changes are made
- Compliant label is delivered to the client
We accept most file types, including Adobe Illustrator, InDesign and PDF. For large size files, clients can send us files via FTP.
In the case that the client provides French translations, we highly recommend a French translation review performed by our professional linguists to ensure the accuracy of the translation and adherence of label compliance regulations.
If we are not doing the typesetting, then we will issue you feedback via PDF or word file on how to make your packaging compliant.
Again, no certificate or official document is issued from Canadian authorities as it is done so in Mexico. A compliant label is achieved based on our professional opinions and experience.
